Robotic Solutions for the Construction Industry
RoBIM Backgrounder
Problem
Construction is a global trillion-dollar industry facing multiple challenges. McKinsey reports that large construction projects globally typically take 20 percent longer to finish than scheduled and up to 80 percent are over budget.
Productivity growth and investment in R&D severely lags other industries and the industry is challenged by an aging work force and not being able to attract and retain young talent.
RoBIM Technologies Inc. was founded to bring robotics and automation to the construction site and to offer automated fabrication capabilities that reduce the need for human labor; lower costs; improve quality and increase the productivity of construction methods.
RoBIM’s Solution
RoBIM offers a four-step platform of software, hardware and processes to replicate the design, testing and robotic fabrication of components used in the commercial and residential construction industry.
The first step is RoBIM’s simulation software that automates the creation of robotic processes in a virtual environment for fabricating components used in construction projects. ©
Second, RoBIM designs and tests key robotic fabrication processes and, third, builds full production lines. These underlying capabilities are added to an ever-growing library of design and fabrication IP.
Fourth, RoBIM’s long-term vision is to bring robotics to or near a construction site to reduce the fixed costs of robotic fabrication and improve project logistics and scheduling.
Focus on Problems to Solve
RoBIM’s mantra is to identify problems to solve in construction by using robotics and automation.
Currently, RoBIM has partnered with a group of leading companies to fabricate panels used for exterior energy and appearance retrofits of commercial buildings. Real estate owners benefit from increased building value through higher energy efficiency and lower operating costs; increased occupancy levels and rental rates; and an improved external appearance. As the buildings sector accounts for one-third of greenhouse gas emissions, exterior retrofits can greatly reduce carbon emissions for society.

No More Hard Coding
RoBIM provides a visual programming interface. You can program a UR robot frame by frame through an animation-based timeline and spend more time focusing on design and planning rather than coding.

Smart Planning
Use RoBIM's built-in physics engine with AI-based algorithms to find collision-free paths.

Constructibility Test
Use RoBIM’s built-in physics engine with virtual gravity to test the constructibility in the virtual environment.
Link BIM with Robot Controls
RoBIM's Modular Construction Module provides a holistic solution for bridging gap between the digital design of a modular home with the robot controls. It provides APIs of most common BIM (Building Information Modelling) tool for extracting the geometrical information for the robotic construction.
